Looking back at the Little Red Dot

Hello Amigos. It's been a while since I wrote a post. All these days of silence is not because I'm growing lazy bones, but some thrilling action's been happening at my end. The Ullas' have moved from sunny Singapore to the Winter Wonderland (Brrrrr....) and it's been a whopping transition.

We've packed our entire house into suitcases, lived out of them for nearly two months and yet survived it all. This is all thanks to the lovely family in India and here in Canada, and friends like family back in Singapore. Now that we've got ourselves a cozy home, kids are happy in their school (phew!), and I have my favorite cup of chai to sip, I can't stop thinking of how it all began and how much I remember dear Singapore.

Singapore... The name is nostalgic in soooooo many different ways - it's been home for the last 7 years and has left indelible memories in our hearts. I remember how Ullas and I were such pampered kids when we first moved to Singapore back in 2014. Before that we lived in the comfort of our parents' home and had nothing much to worry about. So Singapore was a fresh start for everything - managing a home, raising a child, making another one, cooking (can never forget the initial struggle to dish out meals), hosting families, birthday parties and everything else.

Even with our inexperience, Singapore was an easy place to live - safe for kids, wonderful for work and amazing to raise a family. Moving from Singapore was not easy and we still go back to thinking how sorted we were.

It's not just the ease of living, it's how emotionally attached we became to Singapore. Even today, we reminisce the Little Red Dot with a knot up our throats. Singapore has given us so much love and acceptance. The amazing friendship we made are definitely bonds for life. We continue to warm up to the happy memories - the long chats with friends over dinner and drinks, the work place fun, the runs, treks, cycling trips and kids outings, the dancing, singing, poolside chats, barbeques, shopping trips and so much more.

So you can tell how hard it's been for us to move our home. I wonder how burdened our parents felt when they left the comfort of their home to venture into new shores. They too probably felt as apprehensive as we did. But its been great so far because India has made us strong, Singapore has taught us well and Canada has been extremely kind to us. Lucky that we've had this great support system to back us.

The memories we've gathered of dear Singapore will live with us forever. I wish we can go back there and feel the warmth all over again. For now, I hope that we continue to remain in the hearts of all the beautiful people we've met there.

The Ullas' miss you Singapore. So long, until we meet again!

  4. So apt! Like they say- good things happen to good people! Your blog is testimony to it. Joy and happiness you give to people around you is what you receive back and move on- what remains is beautiful memories of time well spent with friends and family. In anticipation that we would live those moments again , do enjoy with new friends, surroundings, and nature around you. Will miss you until then.
